Produce a complete redesign and brand change to introduce a cleaner, more professional looking site to compliment the image of the business.
Working from the existing pages and using the new design/imagery produced by a graphic artist, I hand coded this site in XHTML with an external CSS file controlling format.
I used wire framing to formalise the layout of elements before assessing the existing content to see how information would flow between pages.
Navigation is almost exclusively through a single primary element consistently placed beneath the main image and supplemented with tertiary navigation in the main body text where needed. 'Click here' links were also replaced with meaningful text to assist navigation.
The ordinal site used a mismatch of 'onHover' techniques and pop ups for navigation and I felt that this was not aiding the user experience and was also not accessibility standards compliant. I decided to simplify the experience by removing all of the Javascript based content and replacing it with a traditional text only approach that keeps the pages well segmented and available to all.
The original site also featured a form based contact page to channel email
enquiries but on further discussions with the client, I discovered this feature
was not beneficial as it resulted in emails going to several inboxes rather
than a dedicated address. This contact page was replaced with a single address
accessible from the contact page.
